8 ROOMS New Work by Sally Clegg

Friday, June 27th marks the opening of 8 ROOMS, new work by local artist Sally Clegg. The Sanford
Gallery at Zea Mays Printmaking will host a reception from 6-8pm.

The show will be comprised of 8 prints—8 Rooms—created by the artist in Zea Mays Printmaking's
non-toxic studio facility, as well as large collages built from dozens of proofs created in the making of
those original images.

The exhibition conveys the experience of hypervigilance: a heightened state of sensitivity to one's
environment where ordinary spaces and their contents are perceived by the brain in a contorted way.

“Plein Air Around Town” Takes Fresh Look at Northampton in July

Northampton, MA—Artist Paula Gottlieb offers a 3-day workshop from Tuesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 24, 10am-4 pm. The plein air (“in the open air”) session will be based at the Arts Trust Building at 33 Hawley Street. The group will wander out from there.

According to Gottlieb, understanding how to structure and organize drawings and paintings can strengthen an artist’s work. Her workshop will address and demonstrate methods for translating the landscape onto paper. The group will observe landscape and buildings, working primarily with drawing materials to understand visual principles such as composition, value and perspective. Materials may include graphite pencils, water soluble graphite, color pencils, water soluble color pencils, pen and ink, cray pas and watercolor. The fee is $295 plus materials. Registration details at www.nohoarts.org or call (413) 584-7327 for information.
