Northampton, MA—Artist Paula Gottlieb offers a 3-day
workshop from Tuesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 24, 10am-4 pm. The plein
air (“in the open air”) session will be based at the Arts Trust Building at 33
Hawley Street. The group will wander out from there.
According to Gottlieb, understanding how to structure and organize
drawings and paintings can strengthen an artist’s work. Her workshop will
address and demonstrate methods for translating the landscape onto paper. The
group will observe landscape and buildings, working primarily with drawing
materials to understand visual principles such as composition, value and
perspective. Materials may include graphite pencils, water soluble graphite,
color pencils, water soluble color pencils, pen and ink, cray pas and
