Contemporary Art at Historic Northampton Call to Artists

Historic Northampton, in collaboration with The Northampton Center for the Arts and A.P.E., is offering an exciting opportunity to contemporary artists. Artists are invited to submit a proposal to show work drawing on or inspired by selected objects from the museum's permanent collection. This successful program is entering its second year, marking Historic Northampton as a destination for art and history lovers alike. The museum is also part of Northampton's monthly Arts Night Out.

Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Invites LOIs for Building Demand for the Arts Program

Deadline: April 24, 2015 (Letter of Intent)

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is accepting applications for its Building Demand for the Arts program (formerly called Doris Duke Artist Residencies to Build Demand for the Arts grants).
The annual program supports organizations and artists working to develop audience demand for jazz, theatre, and/or contemporary dance. While many programs focus on the supply side of the supply/demand equation, this program is predicated on the belief that artists and organizations can work together in imaginative ways to create and pilot methods of reaching the public and developing interest in and access to the performing arts. Among other things, the grants are intended to promote deeper partnerships, longer relationships, and new kinds of conversation and cooperation between organizations and artists. At the same time, they provide substantial resources to artists and afford organizations the opportunity to embark on new kinds of behavior.

Dance Generators Shake It Up At Spring Concert

The Dance Generators present their annual concert of new works on Thursday and Friday, March 26 and 27 at 7pm and Saturday, March 28 at 2pm in partnership with the Northampton Center for the Arts. The shows take place at the Arts Trust Building, 33 Hawley Street in Northampton. This year’s Dance Generators program is the first concert under the direction of Maureen Shea, who rejoined the company as its Artistic Director in August 2014, bringing many new performing members into the group.
Dance Generators is a multi-generational performance company consisting of dancers in their mid-twenties to age 90. Company members come together through a shared love of dancing and commitment to making innovative performance. Their work challenges audiences’ ideas about dance and shakes up stereotypes about aging. This year's concert is a window into the growing artistry of these movers and shakers.
'Legacy' is explored in Shea's most recent dance work. Audiences witness three solos, a taste of a concert of solos to be presented in this fall. And choreographer Fritha Pengelly previews her latest work-in-progress, to be performed in its entirety locally on May 31.
Founded in 1997 by Amie Dowling, and then directed by Kristin Horrigan from 2006 to 2014, the Dance Generators tour widely throughout New England, including regular performances and community classes for all ages at local theaters, schools, senior residences, and community centers.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for children under 12. They are available online at www.nohoarts.org and will be sold at the door (cash or check only) one hour in advance of each performance.
