Pulaski Park Phase 2 Overlook Construction To Begin October 3rd

Pulaski Park Phase 2 Overlook Construction To Begin October 3rd

Mayor David J. Narkewicz announced today that Phase 2 of the city's renovation and expansion of Pulaski Park will begin construction on Monday, October 3, 2016. Phase 2 involves the creation of a new Overlook area at the rear of Pulaski Park. The Overlook will expand the overall size of the city's downtown park by over 25% while greatly improving its connection to the adjacent Roundhouse Parking Lot and New Haven-Northampton Rail Trail through an improved stairway and handicapped accessible switchback path. The project will also make improvements to the area of Pulaski Park behind the Academy of Music Theater.

The City of Northampton awarded the bid for Pulaski Park Phase 2 to MASS-WEST Construction, Inc. of Granby, MA for $965,000. The project is funded through a combination of the city's Community Preservation Act (CPA) dollars and a $400,000 Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Pulaski Park will remain open during the Phase 2 construction, but the rear of the park and a section of the Roundhouse Parking Lot below will be fenced off by the contractor. There will also be a temporary reduction in parking spaces in the Roundhouse Parking Lot during construction, which is projected to be complete by May 2017.

The all new Northampton Film Festival is here

The all new Northampton Film Festival is here.

A team of community organizations and leaders is set to launch the newly designed Northampton Film Festival as a modern experience of media.

In redesigning the Northampton Film Festival, NCTV Executive Director Al Williams of Northampton Community Television, the festival’s new founding organization,  and a dedicated team including Dylan Gaffney, Dave Newland, Jason Mazzotta, Otis Wheeler, and many others have been asking themselves what constitutes an updated version of a curated art experience that many people can now simulate in their own homes. The answer, or the beginning of that answer, is this year’s Northampton Film Festival.

For more information go to www.northamptonfilmfestival.com and attend the festival in Northampton from September 28th-October 2nd, 2016.

Utopia to Paradise?

What: Utopia to Paradise?

Who: Anna VA Polesny, MS, MFA

Where: Historic Northampton. 46 Bridge Street, Northampton, MA

When: Two More Weeks! Open Until, October 9, 2016

Closing Reception: October 9, five to seven PM-please contact annabartoli@crocker.com
Anna VA Polesny MS, MFA:

Utopia to Paradise?

Skins of animals have been useful to humankind throughout history. In the Pioneer Valley the indigenous native Pocomtuc tribe used skins for clothing, shelter, spiritual and ceremonial objects. Colonists settling in the region, brought new materials, new constructions, techniques and decorations resulting in the blending of the old Native American world and a fusion of local natural materials with European technology, materials and design.

As part of an ongoing evolution for all, individuals and societies, we continue to be exposed to and influenced by other cultures, styles, ideas, ways of living and newly created materials.

Anna VA Polesny’s artistic expressions examine the possibilities of blending old with discovery and creation of new in the exploration of a variety of leather working techniques, coupled with miniature locally found objects and decorative materials. Through art garments and wall hangings the continuing story of Northampton as influenced by geography and history is told.

Polesny has devoted a lifetime to art creation, education, and advocacy. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and been recognized with grants and awards from the National Endowment and New York State Arts Councils, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council among others. In March to September of 2017 her work will be exhibited at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City in a traveling exhibition called Counter Couture, Establishing Identity In the Counter Culture.

CREATIVES COUNT: THE NEW ENGLAND CREATIVE WORKER SURVEY

CREATIVES COUNT: THE NEW ENGLAND CREATIVE WORKER SURVEY
Dee Schneidman
Research Manager
NEFA

Creative workers are a vital part of our region’s vibrancy, but are often undercounted - and underserved - because of the fluid nature of their work life. You can help change that!

Artists and creative workers of New England are invited to:
Answer questions about your jobs, income, and career priorities
Be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card
Count yourself in ... and encourage creatives in your networks to do the same

The survey is designed to capture the complexity of creative work - please take this opportunity to convey how much you count. Help advocates, service providers, and other stakeholders ensure that creative workers are better served by employment analysis, program planning, and advocacy strategies.

Analysis of your responses will be included in a report on the whole creative sector in New England that will be released in spring, 2017. Thank you!

TAKE THE SURVEY!

Andrea Pensado

www.sonorium.net
Andrea Pensado works with sound as a performer, improviser and programmer. She studied in Argentina and Poland where she graduated with honors. She studied composition with Barbara Buczek and Boguslaw Schaeffer and computer music with Marek Choloniewski.
Pensado plays solos and collaborates frequently with other improvisers. Her more stable groups are Phurnne (a trio with Jenifer Gelineau and Stephanie M. Germaine), Los Condenados (with Walter Wright, Jules Vasylenko and Chris Strunk), Bats From Pogo (with Walter Wright) and Sheer Anxiety (with Chris Strunk). She performs extensively across the United States and has been featured on numerous occasions in Europe and South America as well. The performances take place in all sorts of varied venues from regular concert halls to art galleries, clubs, lofts, basements, record stores and "house-shows". She has releases with Zeromoon, Feeding Tube Records, YDLMIER, Hidden Temples, Pan y Rosas, LITL and Ayurvedic Tapes. Since 2010, she runs Sonorium, a quarterly series of experimental music in Salem, MA.
Pensado uses Max as her main programming tool. The voice is constantly interwoven in her music. Occasionally, the combination of the performance situation, the often abrasive sounds, the irrational use of the voice and the inherent uncertainty of improvisations contributes to discoveries of unknown places in her mind.

Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou will be projected on the big screen at the recently renovated majestic 19th century theatre, which has the honor of being the oldest municipally owned theater in the United States. “Wes Anderson's mind must be an exciting place for a story idea to be born. It immediately becomes more than a series of events and is transformed into a world with its own rules, in which everything is driven by emotions and desires as convincing as they are magical.” -Roger Ebert
