The Northampton Arts Council is a city board and a non-profit organization whose goal is to support and promote the arts in Northampton. Originally created as a Local Arts Lottery Council, it began its work by administering a grants program in which proceeds from a state lottery are distributed to local artists, arts groups, and public schools.

The 35th Annual Black Maria Film Festival Tour Returns to Northampton



Local filmmaker Luke Jaeger and the Northampton Arts Council will co-present a selection of short independent films from the 2016 Black Maria Film Festival. The film festival will be presented on Friday, November 11th in conjunction with Arts Night Out. The program starts at 7:00pm in the Community Room of First Churches, 129 Main Street in downtown Northampton. The 75-minute program is free and open to the public. These award-winning shorts, which audiences are unlikely to see anywhere else, include a mix of narrative, documentary, animation and experimental films.

Independent choreographers Barbara Diewald, Leah Fournier, Madison Pallfy and Jennifer Polins curate a new informal performance series presented in partnership with the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought in downtown Northampton. 

Performances will take place at SCDT (The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought) at 25 Main Street in Northampton (Fourth Floor). Tickets are available at the door for $10 (General Admission), $5 (Students and Seniors), and are free for students currently enrolled in SCDT’s Youth Dance Program. Grants Now Available 

The Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF) seeks to support new capital projects in the arts, humanities, and sciences that expand access and education; create jobs in construction and cultural tourism; and improve the quality of life in cities and towns across the Commonwealth.

Administered jointly by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) and MassDevelopment, the CFF is open to nonprofit cultural organizations and municipalities, and for projects at higher education institutions that serve the public. Key dates are below:

‘The Realm of Fire’: An Interactive Theater Adventure

Northampton, MA – Those seeking a Halloween adventure are invited to ‘The Realm of Fire’ on October 14 - 16, 2016 (Fri & Sat 5:30-8:30pm, Sun 2:30-5pm). For one weekend only, theater-goers can help the characters free the forest from the dragon that has held them captive. In this family-friendly theater experience, you will interact with elves, dwarves and fairies as you walk a half-mile trail through Valley View Farm’s beautiful wooded grounds in Haydenville, MA. Groups, lead by one of the characters in the show, depart every 15 minutes for a 45-minute walking adventure along a candle lit trail (bring flashlights).
