The Northampton Arts Council is a city board and a non-profit organization whose goal is to support and promote the arts in Northampton. Originally created as a Local Arts Lottery Council, it began its work by administering a grants program in which proceeds from a state lottery are distributed to local artists, arts groups, and public schools.

Using graphite pencils, technical pens, and watercolors, learn how to create botanical illustrations of plants, trees, and flowers. Instruction begins with line and tonal drawing before moving on to various watercolor techniques. Subjects will be selected from the plant life that thrives at Arcadia. We will learn to identify and illustrate important key features, such as leaf, tree, and flower types. Color studies, exercises, and composition will be practiced throughout the course. We will also dissect a flower, learn the parts, and create a complete color study guide .

Learn the basic skills of water color painting while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary. In this six-week program we will learn a variety of washes and dry brush techniques, such as tea washes and stippling. We will also explore traditional Sumie ink painting skills to use with our watercolors. Weekly classes include lectures, demononstrations, and time to work on projects. This class will be held outside as much as possible.
