The Northampton Arts Council is a city board and a non-profit organization whose goal is to support and promote the arts in Northampton. Originally created as a Local Arts Lottery Council, it began its work by administering a grants program in which proceeds from a state lottery are distributed to local artists, arts groups, and public schools.

Arts Trust receives $100K award from Mass Cultural Council

We are pleased to announcethat the Northampton Community Arts Trust is the recipient of a $100,000 Cultural Facilities Fund grant, awarded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council in partnership with MassDevelopment. This grant is for exterior site work at 33 Hawley Street, including: city-mandated curb cuts; parking lot regrading and resurfacing; creation of small outdoor community gathering spaces; and, sodding and re-fencing our outdoor event space.

This is our third Cultural Facilities Fund grant for the Hawley renovation. In all, we have received $1.22 million in funding to date from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts via earmark and program grants. This is in addition to the nearly $3.5 million we have received from other institutions and, most importantly, individual members of our community — we would not have made all this progress without you! Many, many hands have kept this project moving forward, helping to keep art in the heart of your community.

As with all Cultural Facilities Fund grants, this latest grant must be matched before funds are released. And before we raise the matching funds and turn our attention to exterior site work, we need to raise roughly $2 million to finish interior spaces and bring Phases 1 and 2 to completion. We thank you again for your interest in and support of this project, and ask you to keep us in mind for gifts and to be an advocate for this exciting new era for the arts in Northampton and beyond.

Thank you again for your support!
