The Northampton Arts Council is an organization whose goal is to support and promote the arts in Northampton. Originally created as a Local Arts Lottery Council, it began its work by administering a grants program in which proceeds from a state lottery are distributed to local artists, arts groups, and public schools.

2020 JURORS
Each year the committee for the Northeast Fine Arts Exhibition will select a new set of jurors.

JULIE BECK

Julie Beck was born and raised in Western Upstate New York. From 1998 to 2002, she attended Roger Williams University in Rhode Island where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. From 2002 to 2011, she worked primarily as a freelance designer but continued to draw and paint as a self-taught artist. In 2011, a move to Massachusetts introduced her to the Academy of Realist Art, Boston which catapulted her abilities to a new level. Since then, Julie has become both an instructor at, as well as the Assistant Director of ARA Boston. She also teaches privately with students of all ages.

Julie is currently working out of her personal studio at ARA Boston, where she is developing a body of work that explores the concepts of nostalgia, relationships, and identity. She has a wide range of painting subjects including still life paintings and animal/figurative works. Her work has won such honors as the 2013 and 2016 Gold Medal, and the 2018 Silver Medal at the Guild of Boston Artists, Best in Show for the Richeson 2016 and 2019 Annual Still life and Floral Competition, and 1st place in the Savvy Painter Competition. She is also a Fellow at the Saint Botolph Club in Boston. Her recent show “Our Hands are Full of Color” was on display at the University of Maine Museum of Art for the summer of 2019. EMANUELA DE MUSIS

Born in Boston, Emanuela De Musis traveled to Italy in 2008 to study drawing in Florence and subsequently enrolled at the Academy of Realist Art Boston. She holds a BFA in Painting from Carnegie Mellon and is a graduate of Walnut Hill School for the Arts.

In 2015, she was listed among Poets and Artists Magazine’s 50 Memorable Painters. Her painting, Miss Rachel, was awarded the Gold Medal at the Guild of Boston Artists’ Regional Juried Exhibition and in 2016 won First Place in the Portraiture Category of the Art Renewal Center’s International Salon Competition. She also placed second in that same category with her painting, Fritter and Waste.

Emanuela teaches Figure Drawing and Painting at the Academy of Realist Art Boston and is a Visiting Lecturer at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is currently developing a series of paintings and drawings that deals with fertility, pregnancy and motherhood. She is represented by Williams Fine Art Dealers. You can view her work here.
