Local Artists’ Visions of “Our Berkshires” in HVAL Online Juried Art Show

Local Artists’ Visions of “Our Berkshires” in HVAL Online Juried Art Show

The Housatonic Valley Art League, one of the Berkshire’s oldest and largest art organizations, is putting on its traditional summer Art Shows with a couple of new twists. The show will be held solely online on HVAL’s web site, www.hvart.org, and it has as a theme “Our Berkshires”. This is the first time HVAL has ventured into the online exhibition presentation and the first time since the mid 1970s that it won’t be having a brick and mortar show in either Sheffield or Great Barrington, MA.

HVAL came up with the “Our Berkshires” theme to give artists a chance to celebrate and interpret something beautiful and special in all our lives during these times of pandemic and crises. 51 works of art by 32 mostly local area artists are in the show. The show’s jurors, prominent artists Ann Getsinger and Julie Shapiro, had the final say on which artworks made it into the show from over 80 entries. They also bestowed awards on the outstanding art in the show, which included a best in show award for Dorothy Fox, of Taconic, CT, while two awards of excellence went to Keith Emerling of Pittsfield, and long-time HVAL member Walter Bogad of Great Barrington. Three honorable mentions were also awarded to Arthur Hillman, of Great Barrington, Marilyn Orner of S. Egremont, and Lorraine Klagsbrun of New York City.

The “Our Berkshires” show will be on display from July 6 through July 31. To view it, just go to HVAL’s website, www.hvart.org.
