Molly Hardison, Selected Works January 13th – February 8th at UNITE Reception: Friday January 13th, 6-9pm 202 Main St. Northampton MA Facebook Event here In conjunction with Northampton’s Arts Night Out, on Friday January 13th, UNITE will host a gallery reception for local artist, Molly Hardison from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served. Molly’s work will be on display and for sale until February 8th. Molly Hardison is a Northampton based artist whose most recent project is her own line of jewelry, Anther and Calamus. Using gold filled wire, precious and semi-precious stones, Ms. Hardison designs each piece of jewelry as a unique work of fanciful wonderment, combining glimmering jewels in unusual and playful ways. Anther and Calamus is Ms. Hardison’s way of bringing to life the magic she finds in underwater ecosystems, diving toward the unspoiled sparkles of potential treasures. In 2006 Ms. Hardison graduated with a BA from Smith College’s Studio Arts program, having concentrated her studies on installation work. In subsequent years, Ms. Hardison assisted Gurske Fabrication in creating work for conceptual sculptor Tom Friedman. She assisted on projects that went on to display at the Gagosian in London as well as in private collections. Ms. Hardison’s own work includes an eclectic and unusual synthesis of media, from cardboard and clear monofilament to frozen spheres made from water filled balloons. Her most recent work explores the idea of space, light, and Other People’s Things. Originally, Ms. Hardison began sewing quilt-like pieces of her friends tee shirts and sweaters, intending to extend the half life of each sewn piece, detached from its intended state of ornamentation or utility. Some fabric pieces have been fashioned into perfect circles, while others are intentionally left as organic, albeit imperfect, circular shapes. Ms. Hardison’s work reminds us how absolutely interconnected we are by combining multiple fabrics from as many people . Since Ms. Hardison’s work has no straight edges, it is impossible to attain symmetry. As a result, negative spaces in each piece allow for the light of the installation space to become part of the work’s landscape. Don’t miss this chance to experience Arts Night Out and support local artists! |
