Lizzie Braff and Quinn Berkman - Alternative Photographic Printing
IMG_1461.JPG

In conjunction with Northampton’s Arts Night Out, on Friday December 9th, UNITE at 202 Main Street in Northampton will host a gallery reception for local photographers Lizzie Braff and Quinn Berkman, from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served. Their work will be on display and for sale until January 12th.

Coincidentally, Lizzie Braff and Quinn Berkman both hail from New York City and are in their third year at Hampshire College. While both have centered much of their studies around fine art photography, Hampshire’s interdisciplinary program has allowed them to explore other topics through the lens of a photographer. Quinn has sparked curiosities in a diversity of alternative/progressive education, and media and cultural theory. On the other hand, Lizzie has concentrated on animal behavior specifically observing stress levels in canines.

Specific to this semester, both Quinn and Lizzie have been experimenting with alternative forms of printing, especially on wood and glass. Most importantly, the time taken to produce work is, above all, a learning experience in discovering the many options that photography can give to the studying artist. A photograph does not always need to be on paper, thus we can begin to explore how a photograph can be viewed in a new dimension.
