March 22nd, 2010 This year’s 18th annual Four Sundays in February 2010 series produced by the Northampton Arts Council proved to be an outstanding success, with a total of over 4,000 people in attendance throughout the month. The line up this time around included several collegiate a cappella groups such as the Tufts Beezlebubs, New Century Theatre’s performance of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), and the award winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus and tap dance troupe, The Young Hoofers. The series closed with local radio personality, Kelsey Flynn, impersonating Ed Sullivan in the The Really Big Show, a rendition of the classic variety show. Proceeds from this series go to benefit local artists in the form of grants. Next month, the ArtsEZ Spring Grant guidelines and application will be made available for download from the Northampton Arts Council website. http://www.northamptonartscouncil.org During the recent Four Sundays in February 2010 series, the Northampton Arts Council made an effort to raise money for the benefit of Haiti and the thousands of people affected by January’s earthquake. By passing popcorn buckets throughout the audience during intermission of each of the four major events, the Northampton community was able to raise a total of $3,769 dollars towards the cause. The donations collected from the series were sent directly to Partners in Health to ensure the most immediate impact possible. Located in Boston, Partners in Health is an organization that reaches out to poor communities battling disease and poverty by extending the benefits of modern medical science, and have been working with Haiti for over two decades. The Arts Council would like to thank everyone who attended the series and donated their hard-earned dollars and change to the people of Haiti during this time of dire need. ###### sondra peron, arts administrator northampton arts council 240 main street, room 5 northampton, ma 01060 http://www.northamptonartscouncil.org 413-587-1069 direct (mon/wed/fri) 413-587-1269 office 413-587-1548 fax |
