September 9th, 2009 The Northampton Arts Council presents LANDSCAPE: SCENE AND UNSEEN, a biennial juried exhibition of two and three-dimensional work at the Hosmer Gallery in Forbes Library from October 3-31,2009. A reception for the artists is on Arts Night Out, Friday October 9th from 5-7pm. The juried exhibition was open to artists living in Western Massachusetts and the response was impressive, with over 80 entries received, making the jury process a challenge. The jurors; Stuart A. Chase/Executive Director of the Berkshire Museum, Walter Cudnohufsky/Landscape Architect and founder of the Conway School of Design and Jo Ellen Harrison/founder of Harrison Gallery in Williamstown; gave thoughtful consideration to all work. They were delighted with the quality, variety and integrity of the submissions and selected works from 24 artists for LANDSCAPE: SCENE AND UNSEEN. While landscape is often restricted to habitat, this show celebrates what might be called "inscape"-a view into the artist's interior environment. The call for entry went out in springtime, the jury reviewed the work in the dog days of August, and we look forward to this show and another change in our landscape this autumn. The depth of talent in the Pioneer Valley always impresses us, and the Northampton Arts Council is grateful to all the artists who submitted work to LANDSCAPE: SCENE AND UNSEEN, to Chris Li our summer intern who organized the entries, to our esteemed jurors and to the Hosmer Gallery for hosting this biennial exhibition. LANDSCAPE: SCENE AND UNSEEN features Sarah Adam, Tom Adams, Simone Alter-Muri, Matt Anderson, Pat Bega, Peter Dellert, Rita Edelman, Rachel Folsom, Rebecca Porter Fricke, Alicia Adams Hunsicker, Anita S. Hunt, Elizabeth Keyes, Brian M. Kiernan, Bernie Kubiak, Elizabeth M. Lehman, Linda Mahoney, Robin Marlowe, David Marshall, Howard M. Meister, Barbara Milot, Kerry O'Grady, Greg Saulmon, Mary Witt and Kristin Zottoli.
