"Under the Knife" Reveals Cutting Edge Work of Peter O. Zierlein

Northampton, MA—Peter O. Zierlein is an illustrator, a professor, and a master in the art of paper cutting. His symmetrical paper cuts are based around the concept of balance, power and equality.  An exhibition of his work, aptly titled “Under the Knife,” appears in the East Gallery at the Center for the Arts from February 13 through February 27.“Under the Knife” features a special opening reception with a lecture and demonstration, on Sunday, February 24, 2-6 pm. Zierlein invites the public to join him for a talk that focuses on paper-cut art and its historical and contemporary traditions around the world. In the workshop that follows, guests (ages 8 and up) will be encouraged to explore various paper cut techniques and create their own paper cut art. There will be refreshments and musical entertainment by Peter Blanchette.Peter O. Zierlein is a German immigrant, artist and illustrator. His conceptual editorial illustrations appear on a regular basis in many national and international publications including the New York Times, Boston Globe, and Washington Post. He has also designed numerous T-shirts, book- and CD covers and posters. Zierlein has taught at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. and currently teaches at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.Regular gallery hours are 11am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday.
