The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Classes and guests visit displays of papermaking,
ceramics, paper hand drums, masks, scrolls, shadow puppets
& a silkworm demonstration
10:00 AM -11:00 AM in the Gym    
Music - songs of the Silk Road, Philippines, & China
the Lion came to China via the Silk Road- he will wait to do his dance of good luck on the Asian New Year - January 31, 2014

Physical Education - demonstrations of Tinikling (Filipino bamboo dance) and Filipino Rhythm Sticks from Modern Arnis Martial Arts

Evening  Activities  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

6:00 - Art displays around the school (see above)
7:00 - Music & Phys. Ed. demonstrations in the gym

This project was a collaboration of the Art, Music and Physical Education Specialists' at Jackson St. School. This was made possible by grants from the Northampton Education Foundation, the Northampton Arts Council and the JSS Cultural Arts committee.
