Outside-in: Windows, Walls, & Doors

OUTSIDE-IN: WINDOWS, WALLS, & DOORS

Color Photographs by Kate Way

July 29th – August 9th

Opening Reception: Friday, July 31st 5:00-7:00pm
Outside-In: Windows, Walls, & Doors is a conceptual photography project by Kate Way on view at the A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton from July 29 – August 9th 2015. The exhibit includes over twenty-five digital images selected from six years of work.

The photographs in Outside-In, through strong lines, geometric shapes, and colors - and sometimes their absence - explore the built environment and its relationship to our emotional, psychological, and spiritual being. Together, the body of work plays with the many layers of how we experience ‘outside’ and ‘in’ as humans in the physical world, traversing shelter and space, the familiar and unknown, looking out and looking in, feeling invited and repelled.

Kate Way was a writing, literature, and arts educator for over twenty years. She holds a M.F.A. in Photography from the Hartford Arts School, and an Ed.D. in Language, Literacy, & Culture from Umass Amherst.  In addition to continuing her photography practice, she is currently co-directing and producing a feature-length documentary film.
