The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Come to Arcadia for a morning of creativity and reconnection with yourself. Learn the rudiments of drawing, design, composition, and the techniques of water-based painting on gessoed paper and canvas. Each class will include instruction, demonstrations, and studio time. Cost includes all supplies and instruction for six classes. 
About the Instructor: Jan Ruby-Crystal has been an art educator for 36 years. During her long career as a University Professor she taught classes in 2-D design, painting, drawing, papermaking, printmaking, book arts, metal smithing, and digital photography and design. Her own artwork has melded into a multi-media mix of her skills with an emphasis on imagery from nature. Her work can be seen at Happy Valley in Northampton.

Every season provides new and exciting things to see in nature and incorporate into art projects. As late fall settles in, come see what is happening in the natural world and have fun making creative art projects. Each week we will work on a different project, such as flower faces, sticks and stones, and leaf critters!

This class will concentrate on the visual, intellectual, and intuitive elements, which all create a strong image. This workshop is open to anyone looking for new ways to see - to explore photographic vision in depth. You will learn to increase your visual awareness and use your camera/ lens intuitively to connect, compose, enhance, and expand your mindfulness and personal vision. Capture the essence and magic of landscapes. Experience creating a sense of place in nature with your images.
Please bring your camera and manual to each class. We will be outdoors for a portion of each class.
