The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought (SCDT) presents:

RIFF TALKS_03 Writing From The Body, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Florence-based Contact Quarterly. For a weekend of performances, dancing and panel discussions, SCDT has gathered together an historic group of performance artists and writers from across the globe, including choreographer, author, dance critic and former editor of Dance magazine Wendy Perron; author, internationally renowned improvisation teacher and Chief Editor of Contact Quarterly Nancy Stark Smith; New York City artist and School of Hard Knocks-founder Yoshiko Chuma; Berlin-based artist and Professor of Dance at Kunst University Peter Pleyer; Amherst College Theater and Dance Director Wendy Woodson; author and Professor of Dance at Middlebury and visiting lecturer Smith Colleges, Andrea Olsen; and the Northampton-based performance artist Aretha Aoki.
