The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

OUTSIDE THE BOX - SOUL POWER,  FREE FILM

"Soul Power” is a 2008 documentary about the Zaire ‘74 music festival in Kinshasa that accompanied the Rumble in the Jungle heavyweight boxing championship bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in October 1974. Performers include James Brown, The Spinners, Bill Withers, Miriam Makeba, B.B. King, Fania All-Stars featuring Celia Cruz, and others. And, of course, there is the late, great Muhammad Ali.

We will be out back, so be sure to bring a blanket or low-slung lawn chair. The lower level of 33 Hawley will be open so folks can get a look at what we've been working on, and what the future plans are for Hawley Street.
