The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Join the Northampton Arts Council as we welcome home the nationally syndicated N.P.R. show Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child Live! The Valley Grown radio show for kids and their grownups has been the soundtrack to thousands of families’ Saturday morning for ten years and counting. The popular Saturday morning program will crawl out of your radio and on to the Academy of Music Stage. Show creator and former Florence resident Bill Childs will host the hugely popular show featuring a live performance by Grammy Award Winning Children’s Music Artist Dan Zanes.

Spare the Rock got its’ start right here in Northampton at Valley Free Radio and quickly became a hit before moving to WRSI-the River. Now the popular show is broadcast to a dozen stations nationwide. Come and be part of this hometown tribute live onstage at the Academy of Music. This event will also celebrate the release of “Let all The Children Boogie” a tribute to David Bowie on Spare the Rock Records with all CD proceeds going to the It Gets Better Project.
