FY2017 Arts Council Highlights: Will award $18K of locally raised funds in May. Awarded $11,590 of LCC Funds to 26 artists, schools, and arts groups for activities in Northampton in December of 2016. Awarded the BJ Goodwin Grant three times on a case-by-case basis totaling $2,050. Donated $9K to the Public School PTO’s earmarked for arts enrichment. Co-hosted a statewide Cultural District Convention at Union Station with the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Produced and presented Summer Concert Series, Transperformance, RETROFAIRE, Northampton Print and Book Fair, and Four Sundays in February/KidsBestFest-YouthFilm. Opened the City Hall Art Gallery to the community with a new visual art show every month coordinated with Arts Night Out. Collaborated with Northampton Community Television to present Cinema Northampton and the Northampton Film Festival. The Paradise City Cultural District Online event calendar is ready for Alpha testing. We participated in some capacity with the Black Maria Film Festival, Ice Art Festival, Chalk Art Festival, and First Night. Joined the Events Committee of the D.N.A. Joined the fundraising committee for the Northampton Arts Trust. Joined the board of the Regional Creative Economy Network. Provided grant application support, consulting, and advice to local artists, arts organizations, and community members.
FY2018 Information: The Council plans to keep the legacy of past activities intact while also creating new events, programs, grants, and collaborations within our city. The Arts Council has a full schedule of events planned for FY18: Summer Concert Series in July and August, Downtown Summer Stroll, Transperformance in August, Northampton Print and Book Fair and RETROFAIRE in September, LCC Grant Round in October, A Four County Juried Biennial Arts Exhibition at Hosmer Gallery in October, Downtown Winter Stroll in December, Four Sundays in February series with KidsBestFest-YouthFilm takes place in February of 2018, and ArtsEZ ‘18. We also plan on coordinating First Night in Northampton. We will continue to collaborate with Cinema Northampton, the Northampton Film Festival, M.C.C., MASS Creative, Northampton Community Arts Trust, Forbes Library, NCTV, the Northampton Center for the Arts, Academy of Music Theatre, Economic Development Council of Western Mass, A.P.E. Gallery, and many more. We plan on refurbishing the Arts Kiosk in front of First Churches to display the online Paradise City Cultural District Calendar. We will administer and award LCC Funds in the Fall and locally raised funds in the Spring.

The Northampton Arts Council awarded 27 grants totaling $11,650 in support of a variety of projects from funds allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s LCC program. The caliber of applications this round was outstanding, and we were unable to fund many worthy projects. The Arts Council received 55 requests for almost $58,828 of funding.
