SCDT VISITING ARTIST - Sat Sept 30, 8 PM Maissimiliano Balduzzi’s DOIEB SI TAU- language for a requiem Created from original vocal and physical research, DOIEB SI TAU: language for a requiem, is a study on loss and transformation. In the form of a direct address a lone performer pushes language and character to their breaking point, crafting a ritual of willful separation, a purging of the self. Casting the audience as both witness and companion, Balduzzi holds a mirror up to catch the reflection of our collective desires and repulsions, a mourning of what is lost in the moment of becoming. Applying his on going investigation of invented language and song, the solo explores the human voice as a medium uniquely able to recount the life of the body.

SCDT VISITING ARTIST- Fri Oct 27 8 PM Taja Will Bruja // Fugitive Majesty is evening length solo woven from her personal mythology. Will creates the magical world of her genetic and artistic identity. As a queer, transracial adoptee she has come to know herself as a cultural fugitive, taking on personality as it fits; shapeshifting as way to escape displacement; this is the preservation of identity. Bruja, meaning Witch in Spanish explores the archetypal characters of the Queen, Warrior, Lover and Healer. Through these archetypes the mythology of the soul is allowed to emerge, Will does this with the support of her Energy Medicine practice and improvisation. A long time devotee of improvisation, Will creates an aesthetic of spontaneity with the body and voice, resulting in dynamic, three dimensional, contemporary performance.
