The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Northampton Jazz Workshop features vocalist Eshu Bumpus and saxophonist Jason Robinson

WHAT: Northampton Jazz Workshop features vocalist Eshu Bumpus and saxophonist Jason Robinson
WHEN: Tuesday, January 16th, 7:30 to 8:30PM followed by an open jazz jam until 10:30 PM
WHERE: City Sports Grille at Spare Time Northampton, 525 Pleasant St., Northampton.

On Tuesday the 16th we welcome vocalist and story teller Eshu Bumpus along with saxophonist Jason Robinson. We will be honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by playing songs related to the struggle for equality and freedom; specifically songs that came from the jazz artists of that time who were deeply moved by the struggle. Eshu, besides being a great story teller, specializing in African folk tales is also a gifted singer who's musical heart is rooted in jazz. We will be doing songs by Charles Mingus, Billy Taylor, Les McCann, Miles Davis and others.
