The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Each month during Forbes Library’s 125th anniversary year, a variety of images and objects from the Library’s local history collections will be featured.

For February, we're sharing a selection of photographs from the archives depicting workers in and around Northampton over the past 125+ years. People engaged in agriculture, small business, public service, arts and industry are among those pictured. Images by Lionel Delevingne, Stan Sherer, Robert Emrick, Walter Corbin, the Howes Brothers, Hampshire Gazette staff, and many unknown photographers are featured in the Hosmer Gallery and wall cases in the Arts & Music and Reference areas.
