The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Bay State Bike Week

WHAT: 20th Annual Bay State Bike Week activities in Northampton
WHERE: Various locations throughout Northampton and Florence
WHEN: Saturday May 11 – Sunday May 19

The Bay State Bike Week is a celebration of bicyclists and bike-related community
activities throughout the state. There will be a variety of events in Northampton geared
towards families, children and recreational bicyclists, including

Sat May 11, 10–2 pm Bike Safety Rodeo Join members of the Northampton Police
Department and local bike organizations for their annual demonstration of safe bicycle
riding skills for children ages 4-10 at the JFK school parking lot

Sat May 11, 6–8 pm The Stories of Bicycling History and Activism presentation by author
Larry Finison. FNTG and Historic Northampton co-host the event at 33 Hawley St.

Sun May 12, 7 pm Night Ride. Gather at Pulaski Park w/ your lighted bicycles for an all-
family, relaxed ride through Northampton and Florence.

Weds May 15, 7-10 am Bike Commuter Breakfast on the court house lawn in
Northampton. Join bicycle commuters, trail users and others for a celebration of all
things bicycles. Includes free breakfast, demonstrations, live radio show and awards

Thurs May 16 7-8:30 am Bike Breakfast in Florence at Lilly Librry. Join us for Breakfast then
ride to school with the Mayor and a police escort. Valley Bike Share demos and free bike
safety checks.

Sun May 19 2-5pm. 5th Annual Tweed Ride with Sweet Spoken. Don your old-timey
outfits for a fun, social ride from downtown Northampton to Look Park to benefit
Friends of the Northampton Trails. Register at Gather at the
Pedestrian Plaza behind Thornes Market
