The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Following closely on the heels of Serious Play’s June presentation of THE WALL with Jessica Litwak, this July, five collaborating artists and a select group of ensemble actors, enter the spaces at the Northampton Community Arts Trust building as part of the July Block "theatre in development” residency series, “WHAT WE SEE” produced by A.P.E @Hawley. This is Serious Play’s intensive week of theatrical collaboration exploring the movement, sound, musical, visual and dramatic possibilities around our often invisible, yet extremely valuable resource…WATER...

Serious Play Theatre Ensemble is based in Northampton, where it was founded over 25 years ago. The company works to create a dynamic integration of movement and text, and has a history of engagement with ensemble- created new work that is informed by contemporary issues. Productions have toured to NYC and Boston, and to Athens, London, Edinburgh and to the JoakimInterFest in Kragujevac, Serbia, where its production of the politically charged Milosevic at the Hague, won an award for “dramatic innovation and theatrical boldness”. Serious Play is a member of the Network of Ensemble Theaters, & is an artist associate with A.P.E., a member of the Northampton Community Arts Trust.
