The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Watercolor Big and Bold with
Deborah Rubin

Wednesdays, 6:30-9:00pm
Oct 16 - Nov 20, no class Nov 13
Fee: $195
Learn techniques and theory to create wonderful colorful paintings. Techniques include dry brush, wet on wet, big brush and flat brush. Theory includes color, composition and more. Some demos, some critiques, and a lot of fun! All levels welcome.

Drawing Into Watercolor with

In this fun and unique class we will explore the elements of black and white drawing, and techniques in watercolor painting as you build your creative and perceptual skills in both. Open to adults, all levels of ability.

Puppet-making for adults and kids

Join puppeteer and puppet maker Eric Weiss for these unique classes!
Foam & Rod Puppets for Kids: Saturday, September 7, 9:30-11:00am ($20 plus a $5 material fee, or $25 per student)
Simple Mechanism Puppets for Kids: Sunday, September 8th, 9:30am-12:00pm ($40 plus a $10 material fee, or $50 per student)
Adult Class—Carved Foam & Simple Mechanism Puppets: Saturday and Sunday, 12:30-5:30pm ($200 tuition and $60 material fee, or $260.00 per student)

Balloon Twisting with

Is your child looking to gain a new skill, start a new hobby, or just have some fun with balloons? This 90-minute workshop is a great place to start learning the art of balloon twisting!

Center for the Arts Drawing Group
Wednesday mornings
10:00am to 1:00pm
$15/session drop-in, $10/session if the month is paid in full in advance
Each Wednesday morning session begins with a nude model assuming a series of short poses that increase in length from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. There are no requirements other than a desire to draw, so bring you paper and pencil, water colors, crayons…whatever medium you choose. Beginners and experts and all in between are welcome. No critique or instructions, just drawing. Tables, chairs, and easels are provided.
Please, no fixatives sprays or other materials with noxious odors.

Abstract Acrylics Class with
Mary Witt

September 4 - 25, 6:30 - 8:30pm
Price: $180 total per person (includes materials)
Come have fun painting abstract acrylics with local painter Mary Witt! We will explore painting on stretched canvas as well as paper. Materials provided, included in the class fee. The 2 hour sessions will allow for some demonstrations of techniques, time to practice them, as well as individual attention as Mary circulates around the room for specific questions and input.
We will explore color, texture, contrast, scale, and more in this low-pressure, supportive environment. No experience necessary.
