On September 29th, over 30 artists will fill the storefront gallery at the A.P.E. Ltd. Gallery with self-published artists’ books, editions, and publications. The participating exhibitors represents a diverse community of voices, media, and techniques in contemporary printmaking and publishing.
Established in 2015, the Northampton Print and Book Fair (NPBF) was created to promote contemporary prints and publications, celebrating local talent while bringing regional artists and publishers to our community. Artists, independent publishers, and art collectives are invited to display and sell their work—including artists’ books, zines, chapbooks, mini-comics, screenprints, risographs, letterpress prints, etchings, photographs, photobooks, digital prints, and ephemera.
The 2018 and 2017 fairs each attracted over 1000 visitors. The annual fair attracts artists from all over New England and beyond to share their work with the greater Northampton arts community. To continue the conversation, the organizers of the fair are producing a series of events about self-publishing and community at Forbes Library, scheduled for October and November 2019.
The NPBF is run by volunteers, sponsored in part by the Northampton Arts Council, and produced by Fugitive Arts. With support from Catlabs of JP, Small Oven Bakery, Collective Copies, and the Mass Cultural Council Festivals program.
