WHAT: Hampshire Music Club returns with its 8th Musical Potpourri Series
WHERE: Northampton Senior Center 67 Conz St, Northampton, MA
WHEN: Wednesdays October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30th 10am-11:30am
This is a reminder from the Hampshire Music Club that its eighth Musical Potpourri series will begin on October 2. The brochure is attached in case you want to print it out and send in the registration form.
There are two significant changes, not reflected in the brochure:
On October 2nd, Judith Gordon will appear as scheduled. However, her advertised program, “Sarabandes, Walzes, Rags, Music for the Dance” is postponed to a future series. Instead, she will present an informal exploration and performance of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, BWV 988. Published in 1741, this music is playful, rigorous, improvisatory, tender, and simply beautiful. Composed for harpsichord, treasured by pianists, adapted for strings, danced to, written about, used in films and theatre - the work continues to captivate and challenge both performers and listeners.
On October 9th, Mark Morford’s program on choral music is to be replaced by a different presentation on choral music, this one by Clifton J. Noble, Jr., whom most of us know as “Jerry”. One possibility is that program will describe the journey of a choral piece from inception to performance.
All other presentations are expected to be as originally advertised. Please consult the brochure for details.
Although the Musical Potpourri series is intended to be self-supporting, the club’s incidental expenses are funded by dues from its small number of members. You do not have to be a member to attend the series, but are encouraged to join. Please contact me for further details.
