Forbes Library Expands Services

Forbes Library has expanded its open areas to include study tables, computers, book stacks, movie stacks, magazines, newspapers and more. The Children’s & Young Adult section is also open for browsing Wednesdays from 9:30-5:30 and will be adding additional hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in mid July. Items from the Children’s & Young Adult collection as well as information about Summer Reading are available anytime the building is open. The Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum has some open hours and access to the local history and special collections will remain by appointment.

The library focused on virtual and digital services during the height of the pandemic along with limited browsing, curbside services and home delivery and plans to continue to offer curbside and home delivery.

Patrons of all ages are delighted to have greater access to the library again. “The library is filling with sounds again as people come in to browse and borrow items and it is just wonderful,” said Lisa Downing, library director. On its opening day a young patron ran into the children’s department and hugged a bookshelf.

The library will continue to expand hours and services over the coming weeks and is anticipating returning to full hours and full services after Labor Day. Patrons are encouraged to check the library’s website for current hours and information or call 413-587-1011. Library visitors are still required to wear a mask.
