The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Newspaper Box Public Art Program - Recap

This fall, the Northampton Arts Council selected 8 visual artists via open call to create the Newspaper Box Public Art Program. The invited artists’ photos and digital art were printed on Vinyl and wrapped around newspaper boxes throughout downtown Northampton.

Featured artists include Mason Wicks-Lim, Jillian King, Jason Montgomery, Ben Shohan, Marc Austin, Emet Aron, Rosa Cruz and Lauren S. Corwin

The locations include Pulaski Park, City Hall, The Post Office, The Chamber of Commerce as well as directly out front of businesses like Michelson Galleries, Patisserie Lenox and Miss Florence Diner.

The project was designed to encourage community pride and beautify the streets of Northampton, Massachusetts.

Paid for by the City of Northampton Planning & Sustainability Department. Consultation by Ramiro Davaro-Comas. Printing & installation by Sunraise Printing in Hadley, MA.
