The Northampton Arts Council works to support and nurture the arts in the city of Northampton. The Council awards grants twice each year to artists and arts groups from both state and locally-raised funds, and seeks to improve public awareness of the arts. Its' goals include maintaining and preserving the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northampton, programming such annual events of interest to the community as First Night Northampton and Transperformance.

Pioneer Valley Jazz Shares presents: A World of Piano - A series of three solo concerts

Pioneer Valley Jazz Shares, in collaboration with the Northampton Center for the Arts, presents three master improvisers in concert at 33 Hawley St., Northampton, Massachusetts.

Thursday, November 17: Lafayette Gilchrist
Lafayette Gilchrist’s music draws on the span of jazz history from stride to free improvisation, along with inspiration from hip-hop, funk, and Washington D.C.’s unique go-go sound. Gilchrist has toured extensively with David Murray, and his compositions have graced the soundtracks of David Simon’s acclaimed series The Wire, The Deuce and Treme.

Friday, November 18: Ron Stabinsky
Ron Stabinsky enjoys working in many stylistically diverse musical contexts throughout the United States and Europe with a wide variety of other musicians and ensembles. He is currently a regular performing member of the groups Mostly Other People Do the Killing, Relâche, the Meat Puppets, and the Peter Evans Ensemble.

Saturday, November 19: Marilyn Crispell
Marilyn Crispell is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and has been a resident of Woodstock, New York since 1977 when she came to study and teach at the Creative Music Studio. She tours and records with Joe Lovano’s Trio Tapestry, Dreamstruck with Harvey Sorgen and Joe Fonda, as well as collaborating with Angelica Sanchez, Tanya Kalmanovitch, Tyshawn Sorey, David Rothenberg and others.
