Northampton Jazz Workshop News
Hi All,
We are really excited to play with the dynamic and amazing young alto saxophonist Sarah Hanahan on Wednesday the 29th at The Drake in Amherst. Sarah has been a friend of the Workshop since she first attended our jam sessions when she was a student at the University of Hartford and then two years ago as a guest soloist along with Cicci Santucci in a tribute to Dizzy Gillespie at City Sports Grille. Now, in just a few short years, Sarah has become one of the hottest and most sought after alto players on the scene and she tours all over the globe with the likes of Joe Farnsworth and many others as well as with her own band. Sarah was just voted #1 rising star on alto saxophone in DownBeat Critics Poll (2025). Joining Jon and me will be Matt Dwonszyk on bass.

Peace and Thanks,
Paul

Other Upcoming Events in Our Area:
First a special note: A good friend of the Workshop is appealing for a little financial help to support the release her newest recording, an extended composition that was recorded two years ago. I'm speaking of saxophonist and composer Lena Bloch who has been in NYC for the last ten years since getting her masters at UM. Here's her description of the project and a link to her Kickstarter page if you should want to help her reach her goal.
The composition is a song cycle set to the poems of the great Russian poet of resistance, Marina Tsvetaeva, in English, with my own translations, and features Kyoko Kitamura, Jacob Sacks, Ken Filiano, Michael Sarin.
