Call for Proposals: FUN SIZED – A Tiny Public Art Festival

Bright Matter Studio is thrilled to announce an open call for artists to participate in FUN SIZED, a citywide public art festival that celebrates the power of the small. In a world of large-scale spectacle, FUN SIZED invites the public to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the hidden corners of downtown Northampton through miniature, site-specific interventions.
The Concept
We are seeking proposals for miniature public artworks that respond to the urban landscape. These pieces should be "hidden in plain sight," designed to reward the curious viewer and create moments of play and discovery within the everyday flow of city life.
Submission Guidelines
Scale: All works must be 12 inches or under in all directions.
Types of Work: We are looking for durable, site-specific installations, sculptures, or dioramas. We encourage work that interacts with the architecture or natural elements of downtown—think cracks in the sidewalk, window ledges, or tree nooks.
Durability: As these will be placed in public spaces, works must be able to withstand outdoor conditions for the duration of the festival.
Artist Honorarium: Selected artists will receive a $100 honorarium for their participation.
Event Details
The festival will take place over two days in late September. Visitors will follow a printed and digital map to locate fifteen miniature artworks tucked away throughout the downtown area.
