Northampton Neighbors and SCDT and UMASS JOIN FORCES to COMBAT LONELINESS

ACROSS THE GENERATIONS
An Intergenerational Performance Celebrating 10 Years of Northampton Neighbors

Where? Sunday, October 18, 2026 | 2:00 PM

When? The Workroom at 33 Hawley Street, Northampton

What happens when a college student and a neighbor decades older sit down and simply tell each other their stories? Connection. Belonging.

And now performance.

Across the Generations is a brand-new intergenerational performance project born from the Storytelling Project(storyshareumass.org), a collaboration between Northampton Neighbors, The School for Contemporary Dance &Thought (SCDT), and the UMass School of Public Health and Health Sciences

The Story Behind the Stories Students in the UMass public health course The Epidemic of Loneliness: On Connection, Belonging, and Public Health —taught by Professor Gloria DiFulvio— are paired one-on-one with members of Northampton Neighbors. Over a series of Zoom conversations, they share personal stories, build trust, and discover just how much two people from different generations have in common.

The finished pieces live at storyshareumass.org — a growing archive whose motto is "Everyone has a story to share".  Now, SCDT is bringing these stories to life on stage — through movement, voice, and shared presence — in a one-of-a-kind performance marking Northampton Neighbors' 10th Anniversary.
